See more View on facebook 11 years ago Rincon Georgia Community Olde Effingham Day on Saturday, April 11, in Springfield,Ga. Eighty volunteers are working feverishly to get ready for Olde Effingham Day on Saturday, April 11, in Springfield. The free event from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. will include music, food and tours through the Historic Effingham Society’s museum and the buildings at the Living History Site. “We’ve got local talent and a lot more things than last year,” said Betty Renfro, secretary of the society. “It’s going to be a lot of fun.” Visitors will be able to tour the site’s 12 buildings, dating from 1790 to 1950, including furnished houses, a barn, blacksmith shop and the Blandford railroad depot. People in period costume will offer demonstrations of old crafts and handiwork. Vendors will sell crafts and food and volunteers will sell baked goods – a major fundraiser for the society, which does not charge admission to its buildings or to the museum in the old jail. Old tractors and cars will be on display and music will be provided by bands, solo artists and rambling musicians. Children’s activities will include an inflatable ride as well as old-fashioned games such as a bean bag toss and demonstrations of how to use hammers and saws. The Springfield and Rincon garden clubs will host a flower show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors will be able to see new displays, including a whiskey still that has been made a permanent exhibit. Work is being finished on a new building at the site -- a one-room school house. Renfro said an anonymous donor gave $20,000 toward the school house, which is being built by volunteers Charlie Arnsdorff and Eddie Browning.
